Historical background
Particularly interesting are the schematic renderings of many temples. The deities are shown in their own shrines along with the typical natural features of the site, enabling thus the viewer to identify them.

Description: Vasantotsava (Spring festival); The Chandrashekhara image on its way to the Vasanta mandapa halts at various mandapas to receive the homage of the priests and devotees.

Description: Vasantotsava (Spring festival) celebrations; Chandrashekhara in procession (left). A nobleman pays homage to the image, and the person standing behind him is, possibly, a painter. On the right, crowds surround an elephant carrying an empty swing pavilion. On the flag are Shiva’s bull, Nandi, and the god’s trident.

Description: Vasantotsava (Spring festival); The processional images of Ganesha, Subrahmanya,Valli and Devasena, are carried in procession with great pomp, preceded by dancers and fireworks displays.

Date: 17th century
Description: Vasantotsava (Spring festival) celebrations. The image of Chandrashekhara, preceded by a great number of umbrella-, torch- and pennants-bearers is carried in procession on a palanquin. Priests, a dancer, musicians and fireworks, precede the image.
