Description: Top row: Since the heat caused by Markandeya’s penance was too much for Yama’s servants, the god himself went to fetch the youth who was steeped in meditation before the linga. When Yama’s noose encircled both Markandeya and the linga, Shiva emerged from it and killed Yama. Bottom row; Shiva and Parvati on Mount Kailasa listen to Yama’s servants prayers and Yama is restored to life.
